IMF briefeing note for G20 governments on labour rights violations in Korea
The Korean government made a commitment on entry to the OECD in 1996, “to reform existing laws on industrial relations in line with internationally accepted
standards, including those concerning basic rights such as freedom of association and collective bargaining”. Subsequently, Korea has failed to ratify ILO conventions
87 and 98 on freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining and has repeatedly refused ILO offers for technical assistance to reform its legislation to
bring it line with international standards.
IMF calls for release of imprisoned trade union leaders and workers
INDIA: Twelve Foxconn workers and union leaders remain in prison in Chennai, India after hundreds of workers striking the plant were arrested on 9 October.
