End of July, the EMF addressed a letter (see below) to the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA) about the poor timing and short deadline in connection with the first consultation on the revision of the directive for Institutions for Occupational Retirement Provisions (IORP directive). The EMF also levelled criticism at the composition of the relevant stakeholders group, which, in our view is dominated by representatives of commercial institutions and unbalanced geographically as well as in respect of gender.
EMF sends feedback to EIOPA
Following the EIOPA's Call for Advice on the review of Directive 2003/41/EC - scope, cross-border activity, prudential regulation and governance - the EMF sent feedback to the EIOPA which can be found in the attached document.
Metalworkers make points on pensions
On 22 October 2010 the EMF presented its views on pensions in a hearing organised by the European Socialist Party.
The hearing was attended by leading stakeholders from political parties and other social partners, who all argued that the economic crisis cannot be used as an excuse to weaken the European pension systems.
