Violations of workers' and trade union rights at Crown Cork Osmaniye, Turkey - EMF Support and Call for Solidarity
The EMF has written to the CEO of Crown Cork Turkey in protest at a totally unacceptable situation regarding the violation of workers’ rights and managerial behaviour at the company’s Osmaniya site.
The company produces metal beverage cans at two sites in Turkey: Izmit and Osmaniye, employing a total of 200 workers of whom 40 are employed by three sub-contracting firms. Birlesik-Is has met all the necessary conditions for establishing a trade union in the two Crown Cork sites and has requested authorisation from the Ministry of Labour to begin collective bargaining. However, the director of the Osmaniya factory is putting pressure on workers to stop them from joining the trade union and threatening those who are already trade union members with the loss of their jobs if they do not resign. The purpose is clearly to prevent Birlesik from obtaining the Ministry of Labour’s authorisation.
EMF affiliates, and especially affiliates with membership in Crown Cork, are kindly requested to send protest letters to management and support letters to Birlesik Is-Metal. These should be addressed to:
