EIF Conference for company-level representatives on strategies to tackle the social impact of the crisis in the automotive sector

The European Automotive Industry is facing tough challenges in the coming months. Mergers, acquisitions and restructurings will take their toll on working conditions, employment and pay.

The whole value chain will be hard hit - be it the metalworking, chemical or textile sectors.

Invitation to Press Conference on 22 September.

Pictures from the conference available here.

Shop-level representatives and negotiators have got their work cut out to tackle the social consequences stemming from the crisis.

In response to this situation, the primarily concerned European Industry Federations, EMF, EMCEF and ETUF:TCL, as well as IG Metall acting as a partner, are organising a conference in Brussels on 21st and 22nd September 2009.

The purpose of the conference is to obtain an overview of current practices in the various countries where car manufacturers or suppliers are situated, as well as to provide a forum for establishing contacts, exchanging experiences and discussing joint strategies.

This event should facilitate dialogue beyond company and sector level. This is why we are particularly keen to have participation by representatives from supplier firms, whether they come from the metal sector or the chemical or textiles sector.

Another focus of the discussions will be on collective bargaining aspects, such as rejecting social dumping attempts or misuse of various international aid systems.

This project receives support from the European Union’s Progress Programme (grant ref. VS/2009/0317).
