The EMF is hoping to make the proceedings, activities and outcomes of the Congress as visible as possible. Therefore the EMF invites all affiliated trade union communicators to a briefing at the iPoint on the day prior to Congress, i.e. Wednesday 8 June 2011 at 12H00-14H00.
The purpose of the meeting is to ensure visibility and to describe the various communications activities that are taking place at and around the Congress.
The Swedish trade union confederation TCO has through its Forum Facket Förändras (the trade union is changing) developed a range of state of the art communication tools with the purpose of showing the value of being a trade union member.
The Forum was launched in 2007 and received thousands of suggestions on how trade unions can be developed.

The EMF hosts a book launch on 9 March 2011 at 17H00-19H00 at the EMF Secretariat in Brussels.
The EMF has published a Handbook on Communication. The purpose of the Handbook is to provide inspiration and support to trade union communicators around Europe. However, it does not only target trade unions in the metalworking industry, but can be used by other industries, as well as by partners in civil society.

On 13 July the EMF's information & communications adviser was invited to spend a day with the communications team at the The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), located in Washington DC.
On 4-5 May 2010 the EMF affiliated organisation Metalicy hosts the seventh meeting of EMF communicators. The meeting takes place in Sofia, Bulgaria.
The meeting will focus on improving communications of trade union policy in South-East Europe as well as the new EMF trade union handbook on communications.
The meeting is sponsored by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation.
Union communicators from different parts of the world will meet at the first joint EMF-IMF Communicators’ Forum in Frankfurt to discuss union campaigns, innovative communication strategies and new media techniques.
