Press conference: Tackling the social impact of the crisis in the automotive sector
Members of the press are cordially invited to attend a press conference held by the European Metalworkers’ Federation (EMF)
at 12H30-13H30 on 22 September 2009
at the Elewijt Center, Tervuursesteenweg 564, B-1982 Elewijt*
to present the focal points and conclusions of the 2-day conference for company-level representatives on strategies to tackle the social impact of the crisis in the automotive sector.
The purpose of the conference is to obtain an overview of current practice in manufacturing plants and supplier companies Europe-wide, to exchange experiences and discuss joint strategies. It will also focus on social dialogue beyond company and sector level, and collective bargaining aspects such as rejection of social dumping or good use of international aid systems during the crisis. The conference is chiefly aimed at company-level workers’ representatives, who play a role in negotiating and implementing accompanying measures. Speakers will include representatives of DG Enterprise and DG Employment, CLEPA and external consultants, as well as trade union automotive sector experts.
The press conference will be attended by the EMF General Secretary Peter Scherrer and other conference participants.
