Towards a European steel council on jobs and skills? Identifying the actors
The European Metalworkers’ Federation (EMF) and the European Confederation of Iron and Steel Industries (EUROFER) have jointly submitted a project proposal to the Commission (Budget heading 04.03.03.01 - Industrial Relations and Social Dialogue) concerning the possible setting up of a European Sector Council on Jobs and Employment for the steel industry.
The main objective of the project “Towards a European steel council on jobs and skills? Identifying the actors” is to identify the existing structures in each Member State including those organisations active at national and sub-national levels, such as education and training institutions and public authorities responsible for the steel sector.
The first seminar to launch the project will take place on 15th December 2010 in Brussels and for this purpose, the external consultant (ICSIM – Mr Tropeoli) has drafted a questionnaire to be sent to the national affiliates of EMF and EUROFER.
The questionnaire’s aim is to map the national existing skills councils and organisations active at national and sub-national levels (e.g. national structures - including social partners, education and training representatives as well as public authorities on national/regional level) – all of those who analyse labour market and skills development in the steel sector.
The results will be analysed and summarised by Mr Tropeoli and will serve as a basis for discussion. An overview of the national reports will be presented during a second seminar, due to take place on 18th March in Brussels. A final conference will be held on 15th July to present results of project and to assess the possibility to create formal EU sector council on jobs and skills for the European steel industry.
