On the occasion of a visit to the EMF’s Bulgarian member organisations, the EMF General Secretary Peter Scherrer visited the Kremikovtzi steel plant. This plant, which is more than 40 years old, is owned by Pramot Mittal, the brother of the world’s biggest steel producer Lakshmi Mittal.

European trade union voice is heard in European Parliament Hearings on EADS Peter Scherrer, the European Metalworkers’ Federation (EMF) General Secretary, and Reiner Hoffmann, European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) Deputy General Secretary, spoke today at the European Parliamentary Hearing sessions on EADS called by the Socialist Group in the European Parliament (PSE) and the European United Left/Nordic Green Left (GUE/NGL).

Alcatel Lucent: European Rally a success

Alcatel Lucent employees’ huge response to the call from the European Metalworkers’ Federation and trade unions across Europe.

There were 4,500 demonstrators outside the Alcatel Lucent headquarters in Paris yesterday 15th March. They had come from France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Belgium and the Netherlands to express their opposition to the restructuring plans and the “brain drain” to Asia.

“The EMF expresses its full solidarity with the Airbus workers’ action in the French Airbus plants today and calls on all its affiliates to express their full support for this action undertaken in reaction to the EADS announcement of the Power 8 restructuring plans for Airbus plants and job cuts” said Peter Scherrer, the General Secretary of the EMF.

The European Metalworkers’ Federation (EMF) condemns Delphi’s unilateral and brutal decision announced in the press to close its plant in Cadiz (Spain) and expresses its full support to Delphi employees in Cadiz who will demonstrate on 1st March for the future of their plant and their jobs.
