Trade union and works council representatives from Belgium, France, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands and the UK met yesterday for a coordination meeting organised by the European Metalworkers’ Federation (EMF). They met in order to discuss the current situation and future trade union strategy when facing EADS restructuring plans and prospective job losses in Europe.

The meeting came in the wake of the ‘Power8’ restructuring programme and its expected effect on employment at EADS plants across Europe. The outcome of yesterday’s meeting was the adoption of the enclosed joint platform to be sent to management: “A platform for the future of a technological frontrunner”. As stated by Peter Scherrer, EMF General Secretary, “The platform provides a good basis for developing the firm and durable solidarity required to face the events to come”. He confirmed that the participants in the EMF EADS Trade Union Coordination Group had also agreed on the holding of a European Action Day in March to promote the platform and give a clear demonstration of their solidarity.
