“The EMF and its affiliated organisations are strongly opposed to the decision taken without any prior information and consultation with the workers’ representative bodies at national and European level” says EMF General Secretary Peter Scherrer. The EMF insists that Delphi suspends this decision and leads a proper information and consultation with its European Works Council and the trade unions.

The EMF calls on Delphi to take its responsibility not only vis-à-vis its employees, but also vis-à-vis the region of Andalusia, the Spanish government and the European Union who invested all together more than €60 million of funding in the Cadiz plant between 1986 and 2005.

In the light of the ongoing reorganisation of Delphi’s activities around core product lines, the EMF, together with all its affiliated unions with membership in Delphi, urge management to enter immediately into constructive dialogue on industrial alternatives for the sustainability of its activities in Europe.

The EMF will convene without delay a meeting of its European trade union coordination group so as to examine the situation and develop a common strategy. The strategy is to be used in case management refuses to suspend its decision to close its Spanish location and to enter into dialogue with trade unions and Delphi employees at European level.
