European Action Day planning on track 16 March
As already announced the European Metalworkers’ Federation (EMF) is calling for a European Action Day on 16th March in protest against the Power 8 restructuring plans. The EMF affiliates are currently engaged in preparing activities at national level.
In Germany strikes will take place at all seven Airbus production sites and a mass demonstration will be held in Hamburg at which 20,000 participants are expected. Speakers will include, among others, Jürgen Peters, the President of IG Metall.
In Spain work will cease for one hour at the three Airbus production sites and also at sites owned by the EADS Group. Demonstrations will take place in front of the factory gates. Approximately 9,000 workers will take part in actions throughout Spain.
In France there will be work stoppages at all Airbus production sites and a mass demonstration will be held in front of the EADS headquarters in Paris.
Supplier companies (e.g. in Belgium and the Netherlands) will support the Action Day by taking part in actions in neighbouring countries.
Contrary to announcements from the press, no event is being organised in Brussels.
