The struggle of Dacia workers is the struggle of all European workers

11/04/2008

The EMF supports the current struggle of the workers of Renault’s Romanian subsidiary, Dacia, to obtain a wage increase and improvement in their working conditions.

The EMF welcomes the Romanian court’s ruling that the employees’ strike action was completely legal. The right to strike is a fundamental right in Europe and cannot be circumvented by employers when it suits them. The Dacia workers’ action is a clear illustration of the fact that social democracy is progressing in Romania.

The struggle of the Dacia workers is the struggle of all European workers who are fighting for wages that allow them to support their families decently - and especially in the NMS where multinational companies try to take advantage of the low wage situation.

The EMF will call for solidarity with the Dacia workers - including financial solidarity - on the part of all its members in order to provide concrete support for the Romanian workers and their trade unions.
